Borrowdale Brooke and Carrick Creagh areas: a pattern of gate rush incidents has developed in June 2026. A vehicle tailgates a resident through an electric gate and suspects exit quickly before it closes. Always wait for the gate to fully close before driving away. Install gate cameras if possible. If you see a vehicle tailgating, call your guard and do not proceed until the threat is assessed.
Highfield: vehicle hijacking near Machipisa shopping centre. Suspect approaches at the stop sign on the Mbare-Highfield intersection and forces the driver out at knifepoint. Two incidents in the third week of June 2026. Do not stop your vehicle fully at isolated junctions if possible - slow-roll after checking for cross-traffic. Keep doors locked and windows up at all times in this area.
Harare CBD pedestrian accident zone: Samora Machel Avenue between Fourth Street and Julius Nyerere Way. Drivers ignoring pedestrian crossings at speed during peak hours. Three pedestrians were struck in the first three weeks of June 2026. Cross only at designated crossings when the light is fully green. Do not assume vehicles will stop.
Water mains burst under Leopold Takawira Street near Rezende Street junction. Significant sinkhole risk developing. The area has been cordoned off but motorists attempting detours are encountering unmarked diversions with no signage. Avoid this section of central Harare entirely and use Samora Machel Avenue or Cameron Street as alternatives.
Glen Norah township: house break-ins using a new method where suspects cut through burglar bar welds at the bottom of windows during the day when residents are at work. Several homes in the area were targeted in the second week of June 2026. Inspect all burglar bars regularly for weakened welds. Reinforce with additional locks on all ground-floor entry points.
Mabelreign suburb evening mugging route: suspects using quiet residential roads near Mabelreign shops to follow and ambush pedestrians walking home between 6pm-9pm. Pattern identified across multiple incidents in the second week of June 2026. Vary your route if walking home in this area. Walk in the centre of the road where possible to avoid being grabbed from behind hedges.
Investment scam WhatsApp groups targeting Harare residents in June 2026. Victims are added to groups showing fake returns, then pressed to invest. All contact is via WhatsApp only, no physical office. At least twelve Harare residents reported losing significant sums. Never invest based on WhatsApp group performance screenshots. Verify any investment company through SECZ.
Borrowdale road pedestrian muggings near the Borrowdale Village intersection. Suspects wait near the ATM and follow victims who withdraw cash, then attack on the quieter sections of the road. At least five incidents in June 2026. Only withdraw cash from indoor ATMs in shopping centres. Avoid using street-facing ATMs after dark.
